Custom Home Building & Remodeling Services in East Texas
30 years of giving families their dream homes with a proven design-build approach
Decades of Experience Behind Every East Texas Home We Build
Picture your custom home sitting among the towering pines of East Texas, with a covered porch overlooking your property and an interior designed around the way you want to live. If you've already found the perfect piece of land or have plans to transform your current home, Bort Custom Homes can help you bring those ideas to life.
Gary Bort founded his residential design practice in 1994 and later expanded into construction. Today, our family-run company brings more than 30 years of experience to custom home building and remodeling projects throughout East Texas, with design and construction managed by one team.
We develop your plans alongside your budget, so you understand the costs as your ideas take shape. Bort uses a cost-plus building approach that provides transparency into construction expenses, while Gary and Michael work closely together to carry the original design through to completion.
From established neighborhoods in Longview and Tyler to rural acreage near Henderson and surrounding communities, we consider how your property can influence the design. On larger homesites, that might mean positioning the house to take advantage of the views and outdoor living opportunities. For an extensive renovation, we'll look at how the existing layout can be reworked to make your home more comfortable.
If you're planning a custom home or major renovation in East Texas, we'd love to hear what you have in mind. We'll discuss your ideas and explore what's realistic for your budget before moving into design.

Building a custom home gives you the opportunity to start with a blank sheet of paper. Every floor plan, exterior detail, and material selection is chosen specifically for your family, your property, and the way you want to live.
At Bort Custom Homes, design is part of the process from day one. We help homeowners evaluate their land, develop floor plans, create 3D renderings, and make informed decisions before construction begins. The result is a home that fits both the property and the people who live there.

Not every home needs to be replaced. In many cases, the right renovation can improve the way a home functions while preserving the location and character homeowners already love.
Bort Custom Homes specializes in large-scale remodeling projects, including additions, whole-home renovations, major floor-plan reconfigurations, and kitchen transformations as part of larger remodeling projects. We help homeowners evaluate what's possible, develop a plan, and make design decisions before construction begins. That preparation helps create a smoother project and a more predictable outcome.
How Our Team Cares for Your Home
It's exciting to see your ideas for a new home or renovation begin to take shape. At Bort Custom Homes, we want you to enjoy that experience and feel confident about the decisions you're making along the way.
Our in-house team works closely with you to develop the design, using detailed 3D renderings to help you picture the finished spaces. We'll also walk you through material selections and construction costs, giving you time to explore your options before building begins.
We prepare detailed bids with clearly defined allowances, so you understand what's included in your investment. Once construction begins, Gary and Michael remain involved, overseeing the work and keeping you informed as your home comes together.

In The Words of Our Clients
I cannot say enough good things about Gary and this company. I had a specific vision of what I wanted and they were able to perfectly capture it. We wanted to go more of an old world design route and Gary made my ideas a reality. The communication with them was easy and we received house plans very quickly. I don't plan to ever build again, but if we do we'll definitely use them.

We were looking for someone to design our forever home. We reviewed several companies as well as Bort and Design. We finally found a company that would listen to our wants and needs to guide us through the process of the design. We also chose this company for our builder. The outcome was more than we expected and we're very happy that we chose this company.

My wife and I had a great experience using Bort Design for the design and construction of our custom home. Gary and Michael were great to work with and gave us insight on improvements that made our home even better than expected. I would highly recommend them for your custom home design and construction. It was truly a wonderful experience to have known and worked with them.

Gary and his team are top-notch. We were told they are highly specialized professionals in home remodeling, and they absolutely lived up to that reputation. They completed our project years ago, yet they still take every call and respond to texts whenever we have questions or need help. It has truly been a blessing to work with them.
