Gary is the owner of Bort Custom Homes and brings more than 30 years of experience in custom home design and construction across East Texas. He has drawn plans for families from Longview to Tyler and beyond, and his fingerprints are on homes in nearly every corner of the region. Gary's passion runs through both sides of the work — the design table and the jobsite — and he brings a builder's practicality to his designs and a designer's eye to his builds. He understands what it takes to turn a plan into a real home, and that experience shapes every project from the earliest sketches through final construction. Clients work with Gary because he listens carefully, draws thoughtfully, and stays involved from the first conversation to the final walkthrough.
Matthew Bort
Designer
Matt is a designer at Bort Custom Homes, working alongside his father to bring each client's home to life. He has a deep love for traditional residential architecture — the kind of homes built on classical principles, with thoughtful proportions, character-rich details, and a sense of permanence that goes beyond passing trends. Matt has studied the craft seriously, learning from the architects and design references that have shaped great American homes for generations, and he brings that knowledge to every project he draws. Using Chief Architect and D5 Render, he develops detailed plans and photoreal 3D renderings that let clients walk through their home long before construction begins. His goal on every project is the same: design something genuinely unique and beautiful — a home worth building, and worth coming home to. Matt grew up in East Texas and is proud to design homes for the families who live here.
Michael Bort
Project Manager
Michael is a project manager at Bort Custom Homes, keeping builds organized, on schedule, and aligned with the vision developed in the design phase. He brings a well-rounded background to the role: years of interior design experience across homes at every price point, paired with strong design skills of his own. That combination means Michael speaks the language of both the jobsite and the design table — he understands what it takes to turn a plan into a finished home, and he knows how the small interior decisions add up to the way a space actually feels. Clients appreciate his attention to the details that often get overlooked in the rush of construction.
