Whole-Home Remodels and Large Additions
For families who love where they live and want more out of it, designed and built by the same team that draws it
What makes our remodels different
More of the Home You Already Have
Sometimes the right move is not a new home; it is more of the one you already have. Most families who call us love where they live. They like the neighborhood, the schools, the trees. They just need the house to do more. We take on whole-home remodels and large additions across East Texas, and we approach them the same way we approach a custom build.
We design the change first and produce renderings so you can see how the new space works with the old. How light moves through it, how you move through it, and how an addition ties into the existing roofline instead of looking bolted on. Done right, the new work disappears into the house, and the addition becomes the favorite room within a month.
Common questions
What Most Clients Ask About a Remodel or Addition
- What kinds of remodels do you take on?expand_more
- We focus on substantial projects, the kind that change how a whole home lives: whole-home remodels and renovations, large additions including second-story and wing additions, and reconfiguring floor plans to open up or rework how a home flows. To be straight about scope, this is not where we do single-room kitchen or bath jobs, ADUs, basements, decks, or outdoor-only projects. We would rather point you to the right fit than take on a project that is not ours to do well.
- Do you design the remodel, or do I need to bring plans?expand_more
- We design it. We are a design-build firm, so we draw the change and show it to you in renderings before any demolition starts. That way you can see how the new space works with the old before we ever pick up a tool.
- Can we live in the house during the work?expand_more
- In most cases, yes. We coordinate the work to limit disruption to the parts of the house you are using day to day, and we keep the work area controlled. There are some scenarios where we will talk through whether staying makes sense.
- What if demolition turns up something unexpected?expand_more
- Remodels reveal more than new builds because we are opening up an existing house. When we find something, we bring it to you, walk you through the options and the cost, and do not move on it until you have approved the change.
Our process
How a Remodel or Addition Runs With Us
A remodel lives or dies on the planning. Before any demolition starts, we design the change and show it to you in detail, because getting it right on screen is what keeps a remodel from turning into a series of surprises. We price the project against a defined scope and give you a clear number before you commit.
A remodel also puts you and your family inside a construction project, often while you are still living there. That makes communication and trust matter even more than on a new build. You work with the same family the whole way, with regular meetings, clear direction, and a team that treats your existing home with care. When demolition turns up something we could not see before, we bring it to you, explain the cost, and wait for your approval before we move on it.

In The Words of Our Clients
I cannot say enough good things about Gary and this company. I had a specific vision of what I wanted and they were able to perfectly capture it. We wanted to go more of an old world design route and Gary made my ideas a reality. The communication with them was easy and we received house plans very quickly. I don't plan to ever build again, but if we do we'll definitely use them.

We were looking for someone to design our forever home. We reviewed several companies as well as Bort and Design. We finally found a company that would listen to our wants and needs to guide us through the process of the design. We also chose this company for our builder. The outcome was more than we expected and we're very happy that we chose this company.

My wife and I had a great experience using Bort Design for the design and construction of our custom home. Gary and Michael were great to work with and gave us insight on improvements that made our home even better than expected. I would highly recommend them for your custom home design and construction. It was truly a wonderful experience to have known and worked with them.

Gary and his team are top-notch. We were told they are highly specialized professionals in home remodeling, and they absolutely lived up to that reputation. They completed our project years ago, yet they still take every call and respond to texts whenever we have questions or need help. It has truly been a blessing to work with them.
